Sydney Showground is Entering a New Era

The recent 10 year anniversary celebration of the Sydney 2000 Olympics prompted me to reflect on just how far we have come as an events-based organisation since the ‘best games ever’.
The Sydney Showground, which played host to a range of Olympic events, now averages over 400 diverse events each year. From business meetings such as NSW Farmers’ annual conference, to unique product launches for clients like Mack Trucks. From trade shows like Better Homes and Gardens Live and The Safety Show to music festivals like Big Day Out. We host a unique range of events.
We continue to make investments in our venues with The Hub now on offer for small business meetings. And while these events are key part of our business, and will remain so, the Sydney Showground is entering a new era.
Sydney Showground has been announced as the homeground for the newest AFL club, Team GWS, and the upgrade to our Main Arena is expected to be completed for the 2012 football season. The upgrade, which brings seating up to 25,000, new media facilities and corporate entertaining facilities, will provide new opportunities for a whole gamut of events. We’ll keep you informed as our unique venue and facilities develop.
As we set out on this exciting stage in our growth, we are pleased to welcome Matthew Phelan to the team as General Manager of Sydney Showground.
Matt is responsible for the Sydney Showground business – from sales to event planning, operations and facilities management. Matt and the team are committed to providing the seamless execution of events to ensure the satisfaction of every one of our customers.
We look forward to a very busy time before Christmas with the V8 Supercars, Stereosonic music festival along with preparations for Amway China in January.
Have a safe and festive Christmas and New Year and we will see you in 2011.

The RAS is proud to be recognised with this award as the business prides itself on assisting all members of the community to access and enjoy its much loved event.
Free entry to all carers of a person with a disability is granted by the RAS to ensure every opportunity is given to experience and enjoy the largest event in the Southern Hemisphere.

Tricks of the Trade…Mastered
At Sydney Showground, we know just how diverse the job of an Executive Assistant is and the responsibility many carry for delivering high quality events for their company.
'Mastering Events', a free, one day workshop was held at Sydney Showground in September with a program jam packed with industry experts delivering tips and tricks of the trade to EA’s from all corners of Sydney.
Event creation requires true partnership and it was in this spirit that Sydney Showground ran this event with support from Staging Connections, Ovations and Micenet Australia.
“It was great to see the flexibility of Sydney Showground. This event really showcased the possibilities of hosting an event here. All that you need to bring is your imagination,” said Catherine Ross from Urban Taskforce Australia.
We appreciate the participant feedback we received and congratulate our lucky prize-draw winner, Wendy Hogg of Nestle. Wendy won six bottles of Gold Medal wine from the Sydney Royal Macquarie Group Wine Show.
