It's been a very exciting past few months here at Sydney Showground. In particular the visit from His Holiness, The Dalai Lama is one experience that many of our team will remember for a long time.

During his 5 days here at Sydney Showground, I had the opportunity to personally meet with His Holiness and welcome him to The Dome where he enlightened thousands of visitors on the art of meditation and why it is so important to Buddhism.

Another exciting announcement I'd like to make is that Sydney Showground will be hosting one very big sleepover this month. Over 10,000 pilgrims attending the World Youth Day event from 15 - 20 July will be provided with overnight accommodation here at Sydney Showground. It's yet another great example of just how flexible our venues can be!

WORLD YOUTH DAY CAMPS OUT AT SYDNEY SHOWGROUND

In conjunction with the World Youth Day event being held in Sydney during July, Sydney Showground will be welcoming over 10,000 pilgrims that require overnight accommodation. Covering well over 30,000 square metres of space across over 20 venues, the pilgrims will spend up to 11 nights sleeping, eating, and meeting here at Sydney Showground.
A highlight of the sleepover will be a National Gathering for World Youth Day. Held on 16 July, over 3000 pilgrims are expected to attend the concert style performance in the Downes Pavilion.

THE DOME PLAYS HOST TO HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA

His Holiness, the Dalai Lama wasted no time after landing in Sydney on the 11th of June. After greeting many well-wishers on arrival, he headed straight to Sydney Showground and began sharing his teachings in the art and practice of meditation.

Over the course of 10 sessions across 5 days, His Holiness reached out to over 5,000 ticket-holders who filled The Dome to experience first-hand why meditation is so important to Buddhism.

BLEDISLOE CUP - RUGBY HOSPITALITY

Sydney Showground has again been chosen as the venue for several Rugby Hospitality Functions on the night of 26th July, when the Qantas Wallabies take on the All Blacks at ANZ Stadium in the first Bledisloe Cup clash of 2008.

MEGUIAR'S MOTOREX - EXPO OF POWER & PASSION

Considered to be the most prestigeous enthusiast Motor Show in Australia, the Meguiar's Motorex returned to Sydney Showground for yet another mammoth year. Running from 5-6 July, a huge gathering of all the best vehicles including Hot Rods, Street Machines, Custom Motorcycles and much more were housed under one roof in The Dome and Exhibition Halls meaning enthusiasts could enjoy their time at the expo - rain, hail or shine!

2008 PRESIDENTS MEDAL
Celebrating and rewarding Australian agricultural excellence
and innovation

The President’s Medal was developed by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW to promote and reward profitable and sustainable Australian primary industries. It is the only award of its kind in Australia where Champion products and producers from the wine, dairy and fine food industries are judged on a multifaceted basis.

The six nominated Champion products will be visited shortly by independent judges including Simon Marnie (ABC Radio) and DPI Chief Economic Analyst, Scott Davenport. The judges will review operations and observe the production practices to gather economic, environmental and local information pertaining to production of each product.

The six Champion finalists are:

• Pendleton Estate (SA): Pendleton Estate Blend Olive Oil
• Evans & Tate (WA): 2005 The Reserve Shiraz
• Sapphire Coast Smoked Fish (NSW): Hot Smoked Atlantic Salmon
