Sydney olympic park precinct developments
Sydney Showground is located in Sydney Olympic Park – the home of the 2000 Olympics.
Sydney Olympic Park has a global reputation for excellence as a world-class sporting, major event, entertainment and exhibition precinct. A number of developments are set to add to the vibrancy and life of the precinct, developing a world class business, residential and recreational precinct – a new town in the geographical centre of Sydney.
Confirmed key developments include:
- One of the largest corporate relocations ever seen in Sydney will take place with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia progressively moving 5,000 staff to Sydney Olympic Park from mid 2007 to late 2009. The $300 million agreement will almost double the size of the workforce at Sydney Olympic Park.
- Sydney Olympic Park Authority has finalised a deal with Australia’s largest hotel group, Accor, to establish a new five-star hotel and two-star hotel at the precinct. The five-star Sofitel hotel will be located on Olympic Boulevard, and will rise 20 storeys to match the height of the existing Novotel Hotel. Construction commenced in late 2006 for completion in early/mid 2008.
The $19 million two-star Formule 1 hotel will be located on the corner of Edwin Flack Avenue and Dawn Fraser Avenue. The 156-room hotel will cater to a broad range of recreational and business users. The completion of the two-star hotel is expected to occur in mid 2008.
- To meet the growing demand for food and entertainment at the Park two key sites have been earmarked for the development of a restaurant/cafe and a pub/bar/bistro facility.
- Sydney Olympic Park’s global reputation for excellence as a world-class sporting precinct will be further enriched by the creation of a Sports and Education Campus.
- Further business, retail and residential development are expected to be confirmed in the near future.
TrANSPORT DEVELOPMENTS
One of the legacies of the Sydney 2000 Olympics is world class transport facilities which support visitors, workers, venues and events on site. The current facilities are set to improve further to meet the demands of the growing population.
From late 2007 there will be direct bus services from Hurstville and Chatswood with a maximum six-minute frequency bus service from Strathfield during peak periods. Workers and visitors will also enjoy a 10-minute public transport connection from Lidcombe to Sydney Olympic Park via either train or bus services.
