Spend your summer at Sydney Showground

Sydney Showground’s Spotless Stadium is the place to be once summer hits, home to sought-after sports in Sydney from October through to February.

X Games is an annual extreme sports event produced by Disney’s global satellite sports channel ESPN, and for the first time in the events  20 year history the Games will take place in Australia from 19-21 October at Sydney Showground. Indoors and out, the area will transform to welcome the world’s most extreme athletes competing on skateboards, Moto X and BMX.

The ‘season of sport’ stays international on 11 November with the Galway Tribesmen, winners of the 2017 GAA Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship, taking on the reigning 2018 Allianz League Champions, Kilkenny in a historical hurling game at Spotless Stadium. This game is guaranteed to be fast and furious, with the winning team taking home the Wild Geese Trophy and earning direct entry into the 2020 tournament.

From Hurling, the fastest sport in the world, the Stadium will transform for the world’s most popular sport, welcoming back the Western Sydney Wanderers on 23 November for their round 5 A-League clash against the Newcastle Jets.  The Wanderers will then take on the Central Coast Mariners on 7 December, a game that may include the fastest man in the world if the rumours of Usain Bolt joining the Mariners are to be believed.

The crack of Thunder will hit the precinct from 24 December, with cricket’s Big Bash League delivering 5 Sydney Thunder women’s and men’s games. Playing host to the Hobart Hurricanes on Christmas Eve, the Perth Scorchers on 2 January, Brisbane Heat on 8 January, Adelaide Strikers on 13 January and the Melbourne Renegades on 22 January, these are top hits for school holiday outings.

The HSBC Sydney 7s will take over Spotless Stadium from 1– 3 February, kicking off with Free Friday for all fans. Hosting men’s and women’s matches and a swag of international sides, this is the first time rugby union has been played at the stadium in its current state.

The season of sport continues on 16 February, once again with the extreme, the Nitro Circus crew will push themselves to the limit as the best in FMX, BMX and skate take on the biggest ramps in action sports.

Finally, the Western Sydney Wanderers will take to the ground twice more in February, taking on the Central Coast Mariners early in the month before welcoming Perth Glory in round 20 of the A-League.
