An exciting year on the horizon for Sydney Showground

As the year comes to a close, premier event venue Sydney Showground is gearing up for an exciting New Year full of flourishing partnerships, endless possibilities and bringing events to life in new and innovative ways.

Kick-starting the year with the BBL season, Sydney Showground will then be working alongside Expertise Events to bring one of Australia’s largest pop-culture conventions to life in a new pop-up style this March.

As a nod to the pop-culture community and a chance to come together in over a year, the Oz Comic-Con Pop-Up will see a shift in focus by Expertise Events to guest experiences and activities, with various workshops, cosplay competitions and presentations to enjoy.

Running in 3.5 hr sessions for guests, Sydney Showground will be working closely with the team to deliver this new and exciting event.

Gary Fitz-Roy, Managing Director of Expertise Events says he is excited to look to the future of events and how venues such as Sydney Showground can support a changing format.

“With so many events cancelling or reducing in size, more space and opportunities for new events have emerged, and as event organisers, we have the chance to bring communities together again and use these changes to create wonderful and unique personal experiences by partnering with venues that share the same beliefs and vision for the future,” Mr Gary Fitz-Roy said.

“The concept of the Oz Comic-Con Pop-Up is a refocus on the pop-culture community and a coming-together after such a long break. So when choosing the venue we wanted that sense of hope to be reflected in the event, and not only did Sydney Showground  meet our vision but exceeding it, providing the solutions-based mentality and can-do attitude that is required when bringing a new and innovative concept to life.”

“Our decision to launch this new event at the Showground was a no brainer, it offers the complete package; the team are committed to success, and the venue offers great outdoor locations combined with indoor space all on one level for increased accessibility.”

Sydney Showground Head of Sales, Andrew Roberts said he couldn’t be happier to be working on the OCC Pop-up for 2021 and praises the event company’s new take on the convention.

“After such a the difficult year it is refreshing to see event organisers finding unique and creative ways to bring people together again and celebrate communities like the OCC Pop Up,” Mr Roberts said.
“Throughout the year I expect we will see a shift in requirements when it comes to running events and a need for larger venues like Sydney Showground which can accommodate the extra space and offer proximity to public transport in combination with easy parking.

“The event industry still has a long way to go, but it is a creative industry filled with possibility, and I look forward to working with all our clients to see what unique concepts 2021 will bring to the event space.”
