Sydney Showground and Expertise Events celebrate OCC Pop-up Success

With change comes adaptation, and that is exactly what Expertise Events did over the weekend delivering a seamless Oz Comic Con Pop-up which attracted 1,000’s of visitors across the two-day event held at Sydney Showground.
The iconic celebration of pop culture was transformed into a pop-up style event, ensuring the community could reconnect after such a long time in a new format which still delivered the guest experiences, activities and cosplay competitions patrons know and love in a COVID safe environment.
For Expertise Events Director, Gary Fitz-Roy the accomplishment of running the first ever OCC Pop-Up event was as much about bringing the OCC community together again as it was about getting the industry back up and running.
“Tears, smiles, relief and excitement would sum up the emotions expressed onsite during the build and the show this weekend, but all overridden by the magic of bringing like-minded communities together,” Gary Fitz-Roy said.
“A collaborative mindset is what we need in the industry right now, and ‘can do’ is the Sydney Showground motto. The venue surpasses all our service and delivery expectations, with the occ pop-up event being a true partnership across the industry; all working together to demonstrate the safe but successful return of paid mainstream shows.”
Sydney Showground Head of Sales, Andrew Roberts says it’s always a great feeling when you can watch months of hard work come to life.
“The entire OCC team did a fantastic job, and I couldn’t be prouder of the support and innovation the Sydney Showground team exhibited. To see an event like this successfully take place provides hope for more consumer events to get back up and running, particularly when we can prove that with the right support, you can run fun and engaging COVID safe events,” Andrew Roberts said.
The OCC pop-up event ran from 5 – 6 March at Sydney Showground and was a glimpse into the main Oz Comic Con which is set to take place at Sydney Showground in September this year.
