Australian First: ENGIE Stadium switches to reusable cups for every pour
Monday 23 February 2026
From the first pour to the final siren, ENGIE Stadium will go fully reusable, becoming the first major venue in Australia to serve beer, wine and spirits in reusable cups, in a major step forward led by Sydney Showground and WOSUP.
From May 9, wine and spirits at ENGIE Stadium events will be poured into a new 100% reusable 285ml clear polypropylene cups, building on the venue’s long-running shift away from single-use plastics and lifting sustainability standards for major live events.
Sydney Showground first transitioned to reusable beer cups in 2019 and has worked closely with WOSUP since 2024, saving more than 2,200 single-use cups per event. The move to reusable wine and spirits cups is projected to divert thousands of single-use cups from landfill and further reduce single-use plastic consumption across the venue.
Head of Food & Beverage at Sydney Showground, James Farr said he is thrilled to test out the new wine and spirit cup as the team continue to strive to make the venue more sustainable.
“Event sustainability is a major focus for us at Sydney Showground and WOSUP continues to provide practical and effective solutions, like the new reusable wine and spirit cups, that help us reduce waste while delivering a better consumer experience for our guests,” Farr said.
Across WOSUP’s broader event network, the scale of impact is already significant, with more than 2,000,000 patrons served using reusable systems, over 200,000 beers poured, an estimated 2,500kg of plastic waste saved, and 700,000kg offset across operations and events to date.
Martin Salter, Co-Founder and CEO of WOSUP, said this move sets a new benchmark for major venues across the country.
“Together, we’re proving reusable cups work at scale, even in high-volume, high-pressure environments like major sporting and live event venues,” Salter said.
“When you take single-use cups out of service, the impact is immediate and visible. We’re on a mission to make reuse the new normal for millions of Australians, proving sustainability can go hand in hand with great hospitality at our biggest and best venues.”
Sydney Showground’s sustainability efforts extend beyond reuse. Between 2024 and 2025, the venue recycled 404,503 containers through the Return and Earn initiative, resulting in energy savings equivalent to over one million hours of TV use and carbon emission avoidance equal to driving more than 320,000km.
To further enhance the customer experience, Sydney Showground will also expand its draught beer outlets throughout the GWS GIANTS season and the Sydney Royal Easter Show, taking place from mid-March.
