Sydney Showground is set to host a range of colourful characters this weekend, with thousands planned to converge on the area for the annual Supanova Comic Con and Gaming Expo.

A pop culture expo and fan convention, Sydney Supanova is the biggest event of its kind in Australia, creating a space where science fiction and fantasy fans can come together to celebrate characters and worlds created for film, television, comics, anime, and gaming.

A special year for the event, 2022, will mark 20 years since the first Supanova and the 17^th year the event has been held at Sydney Showground.

Sydney Showground General Manager Darryl Jeffrey says it has been a long and rewarding association between the two parties. 

"Supanova has been a valued client of Sydney Showground for many years, and we congratulate the team on reaching such an impressive milestone," Darryl Jeffrey said.

"The exhibition space and facilities we have here are world-class and easily accessible for such a large-scale event, and that's what keeps promoters and clients coming back each year."

Supanova 2022 will be held Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 June in The Dome and neighbouring exhibition halls of Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.

A star-studded line-up of guests is expected, including James & Oliver Phelps – the popular Weasley twins from the Harry Potter franchise, Tom Welling of 'Smallville', 'Lucifer' and 'Batwoman' fame, Emilie De Ravin (Once upon a time, Lost, Roswell), and Australian screen veteran John Jarratt.

In addition to character meet and greets and photo opportunities, the event will include a range of panels, exhibitor stalls, and a cosplay showcase and photobooth.
